Why don’t people believe in life after death? Most people have a hunch that there is an afterlife, but this intuition is often blocked by either materialistic reductionism or biblical literalism. Helping people to believe in life after death was a large part of Emanuel Swedenborg’s mission – and he was both a scientist and a theologian. In this episode, we discuss the role of these possible impediments to believing in an afterlife. We also discuss Swedenborg’s conception of the will, and the various ways that we block ourselves from the free flow of divine love and wisdom within ourselves.
